Dean MacKenzie, Vice President, Environment at Vertex Resource Group Ltd.
Dean MacKenzie has been developing best practices, building training programs and practicing in the remediation and reclamation profession for over 20 years. He is the Vice President of the Environment Growth and Innovation Division at Vertex Resource Group Ltd. He oversees a diverse team with expertise in reclamation, biophysical assessment, construction monitoring, remediation, and remote sensing providing consulting services for a wide range of industries including: oil sands mining, coal mining, in-situ oil sands, peat harvesting, wind and solar farms, sand and gravel, pipelines and conventional oil and gas. Dean continues to be active in research and development with a focus on revegetation and reclamation of highly disturbed landscapes. He has authored several peer reviewed journals and best management practice documents related to land reclamation for government and industry within Alberta.
Kevin Kemball, Business Development Lead, Forestry and Environmental Sustainability at NAIT
Kevin Kemball, Ph.D., P.Biol. Dr. Kemball is a professional biologist (P.Biol.) in Alberta with a diverse background including degrees in biology, forestry, and ecology. Areas of practice include ecological impact assessment, analysis, mapping, reclamation of disturbed lands including peatlands, and GHG protocol and project development. Prior to joining NAIT in 2018 he consulted extensively with the oil and gas industry, mining, forestry, and government.
Michael Chae, Business Development Lead – Circular and Clean Technologies at NAIT
Dr. Michael Chae is the Business Development Lead for the Circular and Clean Technologies portfolio with Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Applied Research. In this role, Dr. Chae interfaces with companies, industry associations, collaborating academic institutions, and government representatives to develop interdisciplinary applied research projects in circular and clean technologies. Dr. Chae holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics and has over 10 years of experience working in the bioindustrial sector, with a strong aptitude for developing and managing applied research programs facilitated through liaising with collaborators, devising research strategies, negotiating contracts, and crafting research proposals. In addition, through his previous role as the Operations Director of the Biomass Energy Network, Dr. Chae has facilitated knowledge transfer and collaborative research amongst academic, industry, and government stakeholders engaged in the bioindustrial sector within Alberta and abroad.
