The project will test the Calscan cyclone separator as a pre-separator installed downstream of existing separators or pump jacks with no separation upstream of the oil storage tanks. The gas in solution is removed and sent to market, or a combustor with no liquids entrained.

The technology will reduce methane emissions from oil tanks by reducing methane from the oil before it enters the tank. Methane emission from tanks is one of the hard-to-abate emission sources.
