Direct Contact Steam Generation for Improved Recovery.

Project Performer: GERI

Start Date: 2023

Anticipated End Date: 2025

Executive Summary

The Direct Contact Steam Generation (DCSG) co-injector from General Energy Recovery Inc. (GERI) is a low emissions technology that combusts pressurized air and fuel in direct contact with water, resulting in an energy-efficient single product stream of steam (or hot water) mixed with combustion flue gases. Rather than venting the flue gas (CO2 and N2) to atmosphere, these products of combustion are co-injected with steam into a well, simultaneously addressing the two fundamental needs of depleted heavy oil reservoirs: heat and pressure.
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from GERI’s DCSG in a steam stimulation deployment are less compared to using conventional technologies. The GHG savings are dependent on the source of electricity and how much CO2 is retained downhole.
