Energy UTM Trials Extension
Project Performer: AirMarket
Start Date: 2023
Anticipated End Date: 2025
Executive Summary
RPAS Traffic Management (RTM – also called UTM) is an airspace management system that enables drones to be tracked and integrated with traditional crewed aviation. The system is compliant with the draft regulations issued by Transport Canada in Gazette One in 2023. The Network Identification service assigns unique identifiers to each drone, enabling real-time tracking and monitoring. It ensures safe separation, avoids airspace conflicts, and integrates drones smoothly into the existing air traffic control systems. The project also includes a regulations-compliant aircraft. The project builds a previous RTM Trials project which developed the capability for long-range drone flights, Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) within the Canadian regulatory system and leverages the current iART project (Alberta RTM Trials) which is developing an Alberta-based drone industry
ecosystem.
