Evaluation of Soil Chloride Delineation Requirements

Primary Research Organization: Matrix Solutions Inc.

Start Date: September 2022

Anticipated End Date: June 2024

Project Summary and Scope of Work

The scope of this project is to develop technical and administrative regulatory improvements for existing processes relating to contaminated sites management. It specifically focusses on developing new recommendations for soil chloride delineation requirements, when assessing salinity impacted sites in Alberta. The project using numerous surrogate sites that have been historically assessed by Matrix to complete geostatistical analysis of chloride masses and concentrations. This project will provide clarity on Soil Contamination Assessment and Remediation Guidelines (SCARG) criteria (e.g., EC, SAR). Results of this project are expected to provide a cost savings for industry and have a reduced environmental footprint through reduced Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments.
